Y straps ww2. Being introduced in April of 1939 alongside the Assault Frame and M39 Tornister, the first y-straps can be seen made of undyed brown leather, with all aluminum hardware. The Y-Straps were created for functionality, with a design focused on distributing the weight of essential gear across the chest and shoulders. Most likely production cost were cut and the leather dying process was cost effective to leave off and just issuing them in there natural brown color. Exclusive to ATF, they are assembled with American made, specially tapered webbing, made on 1920's shuttle looms, just like the originals. The "M42" Y-straps are the latter style. The 'M40' is the pattern issued during the first half of WW2 featuring a hidden stitch. com. These have rivet covers sewn with a hidden stitch and the auxiliary straps are adjusted with a stud.
